PRIVATE RESIDENCE
LOCATION: WESTON, MA.
SCOPE: THREE WALLS AND WOODLAND RESTORATION
We set out to restore the balance between the new house, its living spaces, and the surrounding woodland environment. Our client’s interest in Reiki, gave us a metaphor for creating form and energy, and healing, as a starting point for creating a series of outdoor rooms defined by sculptural walls, and restored the integrity and pattern language of the dramatic undulating topography and vegetation, all within a former lawn area. The design of the sculptural masonry walls was a collaboration with the remarkable stonemason, Lew French. Aside from creating masterful stone feature walls, Lew suggested we nest the sculptural walls within an array of additional irregular stones, to create a ruin like feeling, adding intrigue and mystery. Plantings are comprised of native plant species, furthering the feel and character of a New England woodland, and designed to harness natural patterns of succession.
